Crisis Support Services

If you are in crisis, you can call any of the links below, call your GP to request an emergency appointment or ring NHS 111 for advice. If you feel you are at risk of or have harmed yourself and need medical attention, please take yourself straight to the emergency department or call an ambulance immediately.​

If you feel that you need additional help and support between your counselling sessions, or decide that counselling is not right for you at this time, there are many helplines, text and email services available so you never need to feel alone with your thoughts and feelings.

 

Here are just a few of them:

  • Samaritans - free, confidential support available 24/7, 365 days a year.  Call 116123 or email jo@samaritans.org

  • Shout 85258 - a free and confidential text message support service available 24/7, 365 days a year. Text SHOUT to 85258
     

  • The Mix - if you're under 25, their freephone helpline is available daily from 3pm until midnight. Call 0808 808 4994
     

  • Papyrus HOPELINEUK - if you're under 35 and struggling with suicidal feelings, or you are concerned about a young person, you can contact them for confidential support and practical advice from 9am to midnight every day of the year. Call 0800 068 4141 or email pat@papyrus-uk.org
     

  • Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) - telephone support is available from 6pm until 3.30am daily.  Call 0800 585858. If you prefer not to speak on the phone they also offer a webchat service via their website.
     

  • National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK - a supportive listening service available 24/7 for anyone with thoughts of suicide. Call 0800 689 5652

  • MIND - support line 0300 102 1234 
     

  • A safe space to talk about sexuality, gender identity, sexual health and emotional wellbeing. Call 0300 330 0630 (lines open from 10am until 10pm every day), email chris@switchboard.lgbt or use their webchat service available from their website www.switchboard.lgbt. Phone operators all identify as LGBT+.
     

  • Nightline Association Services - their website, www.nightline.ac.uk, is for students in university or college; see if they offer a night-time listening service at your institution. Nightline phone operators are all students too.

  • National Bereavement Service - 0800 024 6121 and Child Bereavement UK 0800 0288840

  • Mermaids - for support for trans, nonbinary, gender diverse young people and their families friends and professionals - Mon-Fri 1pm-8.30pm - 0800 8010400 or text 85258 for crisis support 24/7 - email info@mermaidsuk.org.uk

  • The SilverHelpline - for over 55s who are feeling isolated 0800 4708090

  • You can also call your GP for an emergency appointment or call NHS 111 for advice at any time.
